Seven national wushu athletes with national coaches Li Hui and Zhao Chunjie left for Xian in China on Friday for training.
The athletes, attending the 36-day training are Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan, Majdurano Joel bin Majallah Sain, Walid Lachkar, Hosea Wong Zheng Yu, Abel Lim Wee Yuen, Lim Yee Sean and Basma Lachkar.
“The training aims at raising the athletes’ techniques and physical toughness to prepare them for the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia,” said coach Li Hui.
“Aside from the familiar faces, this year we selected new athletes – Abel Lim Wee Yuen and Lim Yee Sean – to join the training,” he added.
Meanwhile Basma Lachkar, Hosea Wong Zheng Yu and Mohammad Adi Salihin were selected to train professionally under the Excellence Elite programme of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
Li Hui expressed his gratitude to the government for its support in athlete development and hoped that the younger generation will join wushu in the future.
