The latest batch of the Brunei Darussalam national contingent departed for Kuala Lumpur yesterday to take part in the 20th Malaysian Games (Sukma) from September 16 to 24.
The delegation comprised three female petanque athletes – Nur Amalina binti Mazlan; Nur Amatulafiqah @ Fiqah binti Mohammad Johari; and Syasya Badrina binti Badaruddin – and coach Hamidun bin Haji Abdul Hamid.
Permanent Secretary (Sports) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud sent the delegation off at the Brunei International Airport.
Acting Director of Youth and Sports Haji Mohammad Rosfazilah bin Haji Yusly was also present. This year’s edition sees Brunei taking part in five sports – aquatics (swimming), karate, pencak silat, petanque and wushu.
The Sultanate first participated in Sukma in 1996 and last competed in Perak in 2018.
The next batch is scheduled to leave the Sultanate on Saturday.
