The Brunei Darussalam wushu team returned to a heroes’ welcome after an eventful campaign at the World Games 2022 at the Bill Battle Coliseum in Birmingham, Alabama of the United States (US).
National wushu athlete Basma Lachkar struck gold in the women’s combined taijiquan and taijijian event while Hosea Wong Zheng Yu brought home a silver medal in the men’s combined taijiquan and taijijian event.
Present to welcome the wushu contingent at the Brunei International Airport were Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud as well as ministry officials and Brunei Darussalam Wushu Federation members.
Pengiran Mohd Amirrizal commended the wushu contingent’s results at the World Games 2022 and hoped that the team will continue to bring glory to the country.
National Wushu Coach Li Hui said the results obtained at the World Games 2022 is a historic achievement for the country’s wushu scene.
Meanwhile, Li Hui revealed that the wushu team is planning to train in China at the end of the month to be ready for upcoming competitions such as those in Malaysia and next year’s Southeast Asian Games.
