Brunei Darussalam missed out on a podium finish at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after national wushu athlete Mohammad Adi Salihin bin Roslan placed fourth in the men’s event at the Cau Giay Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam yesterday.
The national athlete accumulated 9.65 points, just shy off a bronze which was won by Vietnam’s Van Huu Nong with 9.67 points.
Mohammad Adi Salihin, who was the reigning nandao gold medallist following his triumph in the previous edition in Manila, was succeeded by Vietnam’s Pham Quoc Khanh with the winning score of 9.70 points.
Malaysia’s Calvin Lee Wai Leong took silver with 9.68 points.
The Bruneian’s brother Mohammad Safiee Shayferan Roslan also missed out on a place in the podium after finishing fifth with a score of 9.64 points in the men’s changquan event.
Local debutant Walid Lachkar was also in the same event where he scored 9.23 points.
Malaysia’s Clement Ting Si Wei won the gold medal while Singapore’s Jowen Si Wei Lim and Indonesia’s Seraf Naro Siregar took silver and bronze, respectively.
Brunei’s medal hope Hosea Wong Zheng Yu finished well outside the podium with 9.48 points in the men’s taijiquan event.
Malaysia’s Zhi Yan Tan secured the gold medal with a score of 9.71 points, edging the Philippines’ Jones Llabres Inso Ligligen who took silver with 9.70 points.
Singapore’s Jun Kai Chan took bronze with 9.56 points.
Brunei will continue their pursuit of a medal with Hosea Wong scheduled to compete in the men’s taijijian event today.
Compatriot Muhammad Safiee Shayferan – who won silver with Majdurano Joel Majallah Sain in the men’s duilian event in Manila – and Walid Lachkar will also be looking for a medal in the men’s daoshu and gunshu events.
