His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) yesterday paid a surprise visit to the blood donation drive organised by BDNOC to personally convey his gratitude to blood donors, volunteers and the organizing committee members.
Held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex Swimming Pool in Berakas, the blood donation drive received an encouraging response from athletes, members of sports associations and the public.
The two-day campaign organised in collaboration with the Blood Donation Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) concluded yesterday with 387 registered participants.
The campaign was aimed at promoting the importance of blood donation to save lives and to replenish the blood supply at the RIPAS Hospital.
His Royal Highness said, “I would like to thank the donors for their participation. Their contribution has not only helped replenish the supply of blood in the blood bank but also helped save lives.”
His Royal Highness conveyed his appreciation to volunteers and committee members as well as the Blood Donation Centre, RIPAS Hospital and the Youth and Sports Department under the MCYS for their support, and hoped the activity would be held annually.
During the visit, His Royal Highness presented ‘Thanks! My Champion’ medals and signed certificates of participants, and viewed the exhibition set up by the Paediatric Haematology at the Women and Children’s Centre of RIPAS Hospital to disseminate information on the benefits of donating blood and spread awareness on thalassemia patients.
