National athletes who were not successful in capturing any medals or achieving their target in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in the Philippines last year, are urged to work harder and continue to undergo training to try again to get selected to represent the country in the next SEA Games as the secrets of success are to never stop trying and the spirit of never giving up, said His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.
He made these comments in his sabda during the 30th SEA Games Post-Mortem meeting at the Lecture Hall of Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.
His Royal Highness also conveyed his apologies as His Royal Highness was not able to witness some of the athletes in action due to the time and the locations of venues that were too far.
The President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council also congratulated the Brunei contingent for successfully collecting two gold, five silver and six bronze in the 30th SEA Games in Manila.
This is the best achievement for the country for the participation of SEA Games outside Brunei Darussalam since 1977.
His Royal Highness also conveyed his thanks to the Secretariat of the Brunei’s contingent, Chef de Mission and assistant Chefs de Mission who worked hard to ensure the entrusted tasks were carried out smoothly despite the venues of competitions being far apart.
During the meeting, His Royal Highness also listened to several issues raised by national athletes.
Also present at the meeting were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pengiran Mohammad Amirrizal bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud and Chef de Mission of Brunei Contingent to the 2019 SEA Games Haji Muhd Zamri bin Dato Paduka Haji Hamdani.
