Ahmad Taufiq bin Murni in action
Brunei Darussalam’s interest in the 10-ball pool singles came to an end after the elimination of Ahmad Taufiq bin Murni and Muhammad Azim bin Abu Bakar in the last 16 of the men’s 10-ball singles between Brunei Darussalam’s Ahmad Taufiq and Vietnam’s Do The Kien at the Manila Hotel Tent last night.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council attended the game.
Muhammad Azim could not have been handed a tougher draw when his name popped up next to former world 8-ball champion Dennis Orcollo of the Philippines. The Filipino ace showed his arsenal of skills on the table en route to a 9-4 victory.
During the evening session, Ahmad Taufiq crashed out in the last-16 stage after a 9-2 defeat with the Vietnamese on sung in the last few frames.
Ahmad Taufiq pulled one rack back when he was down 4-0 but he would go on to only collect one more frame as Do The Kien showed no signs of slipping up to his healthy lead.
The pool team, who came close in winning a historic medal in the men’s doubles have one last chance to impress in the 9-ball singles where both national cueists will be involved.
Muhammad Azim will be first up against Myanmar’s Phone Myint Kyaw in the last 18 today while Ahmad Taufiq will play on a separate session.
