His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) attended the gala dinner and official closing ceremony of the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships at the Hua Ho Manggis Ballroom last night.
Also in attendance was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Aliiyah Amalul Bulqiah.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin expressed his gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah for his leadership and dedication to the development of wushu and sports development in Brunei.
“The presence of Your Royal Highness as Patron of the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships 2019 is a great honour for all of us and reflects Your Royal Highness’ esteemed leadership and continuous dedication to wushu and sports development in Brunei Darussalam,” the minister said in a speech during the closing ceremony.
He added, “Indeed Your Royal Highness’ personal involvement and wisdom throughout the planning and overall execution of the championships were of tremendous value to all of us, and have directly contributed to its success.”
The minister also hailed the sportsmanship and professionalism demonstrated by the participating teams throughout the championship.
“With everyone’s support and commitment, we witnessed one of the most prestigious international wushu events executed brilliantly with all participating teams demonstrating the highest level of sportsmanship, as well as officials, organisers and individuals giving their absolute best in ensuring the success of the championship.
“This year’s edition saw all athletes perform with the highest quality of competitiveness and we truly applaud your professionalism in making this sporting event a great experience for all of us in Brunei Darussalam.”
The minister heaped praise to the Brunei Darussalam national team and labelled them as one of the top teams throughout the region.
“The national team has shown that they are more than capable of doing their best and that you are truly among the top teams throughout the region.”
The minister also conveyed his appreciation to the Wushu Federation of Asia for their encouragement and trust to Brunei Darussalam to host the event for the first time.
“Your continuous presence and valuable assistance throughout all events in the championship reflect the federation’s high level of commitment in developing wushu in our country and throughout Asia,” he said.
The minister then declared the closing of the championship.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Executive Organising Committee of the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships Muhammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman said in a speech, “Having to organise such a large international event for the first time, we have tried our best to make a success of this event so as to bring pride to the nation.”
