Brunei Darussalam grabbed one gold and silver medal on the second day of the taolu event of the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), presented the prizes during the medal ceremony.
National junior athlete Hosea Wong Zheng Yu accumulated a total of 9.52 points in the boy’s taijiquan youth event to grab gold, ahead of Singapore’s Tay Yu Xuan who claimed silver with 9.46 points and Taiwan’s Hsing Shan Chen who settled for bronze with 9.43 points.
The national junior athlete’s victory marked Brunei’s third gold in this year’s taolu event of the Asian junior meet following the country’s success in the boy’s and girl’s duel events in the competition’s opening day.
In the girl’s taijijian youth event, Brunei Darussalam’s rising star Basma Lachkar secured the silver medal after she posted 9.54 points, only behind China’s Zailin Chi who scored 9.60 points and ahead of Taiwan’s Shao Yun Lu with 9.49 points.Brunei’s Wei Jun Lim, meanwhile, finished fourth in the boy’s daoshu children after he accumulated 8.88 points.
Brunei’s Mohammad Safiee Shayferan bin Roslan, part of the duo that won gold in the boy’s duel event on Monday, finished sixth in the boy’s daoshu youth after he recorded 9.18 points.
Korea’s Jeongyeol Park upgraded his silver in the boy’s changquan event to take home gold in the boy’s daoshu youth event after he posted 9.47 points. Malaysia’s Khai Siang Liang took silver with 9.45 points while Singapore’s Bryan Ng Jun Han settled for a bronze medal with 9.33 points.
Brunei also competed in the boy’s changquan children event where Abel Wee Yuen Lim scored 8.91 points and his national junior teammate Wei Jun Lim being given a score of 8.85 points. In the girl’s changquan children event, Brunei’s Zi Qi Chiam managed 8.87 points.
Malaysia’s Jung Hyuk Alvyn Toh carried on his country’s promising start in the competition by pipping Hong Kong’s Ching Hin Ho to gold with 9.09 points in the boy’s changquan.
Ching Hin claimed silver with 9.07 points while Macau’s Seng Fai Chan and the Philippines’ Alexander Gabriel Delos Reyes shared bronze with 9.06 points.
