BRUNEI Darussalam’s national equestrian Pengiran Mohd Nasir bin Pengiran Anak Ja’afar missed out on a place in the final round of the individual jumping event at the 18th Asian Games after finishing in 58th place at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park in Jakarta yesterday.
The national athlete and his horse Ivory De Roulard accumulated a score of 48.08 over two rounds.
Saudi Arabia’s Ramzy Hamad Alduhami is the man to beat after topping the classification with a score of 1 ahead of Qatar’s Ali Althani who posted 1.02. Kuwait’s Ali Alkhorafi finished third with 1.06 and still in the hunt for a gold medal.
Japan’s Taizo Sugitani, who won bronze in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, is fourth with a score of 2.51.
Defending champion Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Waleed Sharbatly was eliminated from the competition.
SEA Games champion Sharmini Christina Ratnasingham ended the session in 39th place with a score of 28.03.
Meanwhile, in athletics, Brunei Darussalam national athlete Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar Rasyid crashed out of the 200m event to end the country’s interest in the sport in this year’s Asian Games after posting a time of 21.88s in his heat.
Muhammad Noor Firdaus finished 20th out of 26 entries overall, three places off the final qualifying berth for the semi-finals, and was fifth in his heat.
Oman’s Mohamed Obaid Hindi Al-Sadi led the chasing pack after qualifying with a time of 20.74s followed by South Korea’s Taegeon Park and Qatar’s Tosin Ogunode, who has already won silver in the 100m event.
