THE Brunei Darussalam contingent of national athletes taking part in the 18th Asian Games to be held in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang left the country, with hopes of the nation carried by them.
The 18th Asian Games is taking place from August 18 – September 2.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was at the Brunei International Airport to bid them farewell.
The minister also gave them advice and urged them to do their best, and to preserve and enhance the good name, image, integrity and honour of the nation.
The Brunei Darussalam contingent of 15 athletes and 16 officers include the Chef de Mission Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim, the secretary, team manager, trainer and medical personnel.
The Brunei athletes will take part in seven events – athletics, wushu, weightlifting, equestrian, golf, karate and pencak silat.
