THE Brunei Darussalam Hockey Association (BHA) recently organised the ‘Get Active with Hockey’ project at the Hockey Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
The project touched on hockey development to attract members of the public across all age groups. The event also marked the launch of a hockey development programme in the four districts.
Among the objectives of the event were to provide an opportunity to the community to be active in sports, mainly through hockey and providing hockey players in Brunei exposure to basic skills.
According to a BHA representative, the association has planned various development activities such as hockey clinic which will be held in several primary and secondary schools in all four districts.
The schools that are identified will be given assistance in terms of coaching and hockey equipment.
The association will make their best efforts to conduct the activities and initiatives which have been planned through the association’s Strategic Plan for 2017-2022.
The plan for the association’s activities this year focussed towards the development of hockey at grassroots level and the development of clubs besides enhancing the expertise of local coaches.
In addition, the association will constantly be in cooperation with the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in organising courses to increase capacity in human resources which includes umpire and technical courses as preparation for a hockey competition such as the Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) in September.
