LAWN bowlers and athletes alike must always be competitive and pride themselves on being able to represent the country at the 21st Commonwealth Games 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia, to be held April 4-16.

This was said by Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports during the sending off event for the Brunei Darussalam contingent yesterday.

“Our lawn bowlers have gone through series of training and they must believe in themselves to be able to compete with other nation. They must keep their fighting spirits and be competitive in professional ways so that they will be proud of themselves at the Commonwealth Games 2018,” he said.

The contingent comprises 12 representatives – eight athletes and four officers including Chef de Mission, secretariat, team manager and coach.

“They must be at all times be reminded that they are flying the country’s pride (flag) and must ensure that they are ‘Calak Brunei’. While at the same time, they must keep their fighting spirits as one of the contingents out of 52 nations in the Commonwealth Games,” the minister said.

The contingent is led by Major (Rtd) Md Talip bin Md Tahir as Chef de Mission, who revealed that Brunei is targeting to reach the quarter finals in the lawn bowling event. He added that it will be a bonus should the team advance beyond the quarters.
