China Wushu Association (CWA) President Gao Xiaojun will be spending the next two days in the Sultanate to promote the Chinese wushu duanwei system.

The duanwei system is a way of grading the wushu athletes through different levels known as guan in the weapon and empty handed techniques. Gao, who is also the director of the China Wushu Training Centre in Beijing, will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Brunei Wushu Federation (BWF).

The MoU includes the promotion of duanwei in the Sultanate as well as Brunei becoming new members to the system. BWF president Ang Swee Chuan told The Brunei Times that it was good to have Gao here to see where Brunei wushu is at and how they can improve.

"Gao is coming for a short visit to our country because Brunei have been quite successful in (wushu) in a short time," Ang said at the Brunei International Airport in Berakas yesterday. "Some countries have a history of 20, 15 or 10 years and they still couldn't get anything but the BWF here are very committed," he said.

Ang added that he wants to see the athletes work hard and improve in the build up to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which Brunei will host.
