DPMM FC are looking to get back to winning ways in the Singapore League (S-League) when they face the Young Lions (Singapore national Under-23 football team) today at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Brunei's only professional team ended their three-game losing streak after a 0-0 stalemate against Geylang International FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas on Friday night. It was the first time that the league's most offensive team failed to find the back of the net on home soil this season.
It was at this stage in the first round that DPMM FC kicked off their six-game winning streak. The streak was ignited by a 6-1 thrashing of the Young Lions at home back on April 6.
DPMM FC captain Rosmin Hj Md Kamis believes that victory will be the spark needed to ensure they get back on the right track. "It will be a tough match whenever you have to play against a young team who like to run more," said Rosmin in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.
"A win tomorrow (Wednesday night) will guarantee that we get back to a fantastic (form) again," he added. Hj Mohd Subhi Abdillah Hj Bakir agrees with the skipper and hopes that they do not drop any points the rest of the way.
"For sure against the Young Lions we would like to get all three points but we know that it won't be easy because they are a young team," said Subhi. "We must work hard and stick to the coach's game plan and strategy," he said.
"InsyaAllah, We don't want to slip up on points for the remaining six games in the second round of the competition," continued the midfielder.
The Brunei side will be looking to Brazilian Rodrigo Tosi - the league's joint topscorer with Kazuki Sakamoto with 14 goals - as well as marquee signing Roy O' Donovan, who has found the back of the net 11 times, to deliver at the front.
They will also welcome back midfielder Joe Gamble in the lineup, having served a one-game suspension. Despite their recent run of form, DPMM FC continue to lead the 12-team table with 32 points from 16 games. Warriors FC and three-time defending champions Tampines Rovers are tied on 31 points but the former boast a better goal difference.
Home United follow in fourth place on 30 points while Hougang United are in fifth with 28 points. The other match today will see Tanjong Pagar United FC take on Albirex Niigata (S) FC at the Queenstown Stadium in Singapore.
Kick off for both games are at 7.30pm.
