The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) organised their second Asian Football Confederation (AFC) 'C' license coaching certificate yesterday.

Twenty-five coaches enrolled in the course at the NFABD House in Berakas, an increase of four entries from the first AFC 'C' license coaching certificate held in January. Five of the 25 participants came all the way from Indonesia to sit for the 13-day course which concludes on June 14.

"We had very good response from the people during our first AFC 'C' license coaching certificate in January, and it is very good to see a good turnout again this time around," said the facilitator of the course Stephen Ng Heng Seng in an interview with The Brunei Times.

"It is NFABD's aim to have professional and recognised coaches to coach the teams in our national leagues such as the DST Super League and the DST Premier League, so what we need to do now is to get the coaches to enroll in these kind of courses.

"The 'C' certificate course is aimed at developing coaches' basic techniques and skill in football, and the coaches will learn to organise, direct and conduct basic coaching practices. "At the end of the course, they will be assessed on their practical coaching abilities and knowledge of the laws of the game," he added.

The 'C' license holders are eligible to apply for the 'B' license after two years' of coaching experience, followed by an additional year to take the 'A' license. They will then have to conduct another two years of coaching before they are eligible to sit for the AFC Professional Coaching Diploma.

"The AFC 'C' license coaching certificate is the entrance for all beginners and this is where they will be able to understand general football education before they move to a higher level in coaching," added Ng. Ahmad Zaeem Hj Omarali, one of the youngest participants of the course at 21, said he was excited to be enrolled in the programme.

"I love football a lot and I want to expand my knowledge on it through this course," said Ahmad Zaeem. "I played football before and I injured my knee badly, but because I love football, I still want to be a part of it,"

"I hope that I will be able to pass this course and become a coach and share this knowledge with the other footballers in the country," he added. Meanwhile, Richard Arno Leonald Karuwal from Indonesia was grateful to be given the opportunity to take the course.

"It is very difficult to get this kind of course in Indonesia, and when we heard about this, we registered straight away," said Richard. "We would like to upgrade our knowledge and skill in coaching through this course so that we would be able to help the young footballers back in Indonesia.

"We hope that we will be able to pass this test and be a part of football coaching in Asia," he added. Present as the guest of honour at the event was NFABD General Secretary Hj Mohd Zamri Dato Paduka Hj Hamdani.
