Roy O'Donovan credited his two goals to his new lucky boots last night.
The marquee signing scored a brace in their 4-0 win in their Singapore League (S-League) match against Tanjong Pagar United FC last night at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. After the match, O'Donovan was seen leaving the team's shower room with his boots, freshly cleaned.
"I recently got these new boots, and the first time I wore them for a match, I scored two goals," said O'Donovan. "I think that's a good sign for me and for DPMM FC.
"A bit of luck on the pitch always helps, especially when the weather gets bad. But without a doubt, I'll be washing these lucky boots of mine after every game." O'Donovan however said he hoped the squad will improve their passing in their next match against Albirex Niigata FC.
"The team's passing started to get a little sloppy. We could've passed better to be honest... especially in the last 15 minutes of the match," he said. "Hopefully our passing game will be much better at our next match against Albirex.
"Albirex is a dangerous team and we need to be cautious with them if we're looking for a win," he added. DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean also threw caution at the team's passing game and also at their next opponents, Albirex Niigata, raising concerns on the injuries of imports Roberto Alvis and Rodrigo Tosi.
"Roberto seems to have twisted his knee, and that will be looked at properly with x-rays." said the Scotsman. "Rodrigo's back calf acted up so we took him out to avoid any major injuries. We hope it's nothing serious with the two."
"The team were passing the ball from the back four up to the front too quickly in the first half, not fully utilising our midfield." "In midfield, we have several options to play with. So if we pass the ball effectively up from our defence to the midfield, we can stay in control of the game."
"This Wednesday's match against Albirex will be tough, and we'll be pushing them as hard as we did with Tanjong Pagar." "Tanjong Pagar were actually passing the ball better than us in the first half, but we managed to stop and interrupt their passes."
"Stopping their play was a part of our plan to achieve the clean sheet we got. The substitutes also played their part in it, like Shahrazen Said when he was brought on during the last few minutes and scored for us." "I think its scary now for away teams to come to Brunei and play us here. That's because they know we defend well, score those goals and get the job done."
"All we have to do is stay focused, keep our momentum up and keep scoring those goals." DPMM FC meet Albirex Niigata FC on the 14th of May at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Berakas. The match will start at 8:15.
