Brunei ended the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Friendship Games with six gold, five silver and five bronze medals, a haul they can be proud of when they return from the Under-21 competition today.

As expected, the pencak silat team rose to the occasion at General Santos City in the Philippines - where they delivered three of the six gold medals, though they will still look back to their five-gold medal haul in the 2008 edition as their most memorable achievement.

But in what must come as something of a surprise, the athletics team bagged three gold and two bronze medals a sure sign of better things to come in the future.

Nurhidayatullah Johari won both the women's 100m and 200m races, a rare feat for any Bruneian female athlete in regional meets such as these.

The pencak silat women also did not disappoint, and were the biggest winners after claiming two gold and one silver in their three events.

Nur Faezzah Latif and Siti Nurul Nuramalina Norsaidi claimed the women's doubles after beating the Philippines. Results could not be obtained as of press time.

Nur Azimatunnaemah Simat, Qistina Athirah Zainal and Nur Syafiqah Hj Md Seffar took the trios crown with 454 points, with the Philippines taking silver on 444.

Both events were on Monday.

Anisah Najihah Abdullah finished with 432 points in the women's singles on Saturday. Makassar claimed gold with 436 points while Zamboanga's representative were third with 428.

Except for the singles, which had three contestants, the other two divisions only had two teams competing.

It was the same case in the men's competition, where Brunei finished with one gold and two silver medals.

Alif Yahya and Md Zainul Abidin Abu Zaini won gold in the doubles, finishing the event on 567 points. Zamboanga were second with 482.

Abd Azim Dukahar was second in the men's singles on Monday. He finished with 430 points, four adrift of Indonesia's gold medal winner who ended on 434. The Philippines took third with 425.

Md Arrsyafaiq Hassan, Md Amirul Azmi Hj Ali and Afiq Aiman Hj Aine's haul of 428 points in the men's trip saw them finish behind the Philippines, who ended on 441 points.

Meanwhile in athletics, Nurhidayatullah clocked 13.25s in the 100m on Monday, with Sabah taking silver on 13.28s and Sarawak bronze with 13.33s.

Results of yesterday's 200m race could not be obtained as of press time.

Mohd Adenin Bolhan won gold in discus with a throw of 36.33m, a new personal best for him. He also won bronze in the shot put event with a throw of 11.10m. Both events were on Monday.

Siti Fatimah Yusof won the athletics team's second bronze medal after recording 4.47m in the women's long jump. Sawarak won gold with 5.12m while Sabah were second on 5.03m.
