Things are going smoothly after the Brunei contingent landed safely in London on Tuesday for the 2012 Olympics.

The first flight to arrive saw six members including national runners Maziah Mahusin and Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi from Brunei via Dubai.

The second flight which arrived an hour later saw national swimmer Anderson Lim Chee Wei together with his personal coach coming from the United States.

The contingent was received by Chef de mission Hj Mohd Zamri Dato Paduka Hj Hamdani upon arrival before heading to the welcome centre of the Olympic Village.

With everything set, the athletes had light training with the duo of Ak Hafiy Tajuddin and Maziah taking it to the tracks of Sunrise Close situated next to the Olympic Village.

National swimmer Lim also commenced his training at the Aquatics centre as well.

The contingent is scheduled to meet up with His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) in a welcoming ceremony yesterday at the Village Plaza.

This year's Olympics will be a special one for Brunei as the Sultanate sent its first female athlete to compete at the July 27 - August 12 multi-sport event.

Maziah will be running in the women's 400-metre event at the Games and her best time is 1:00.32 at the 19th Open International Athletics Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, earlier this month.

She has also been given the honour to be the flag bearer at the opening ceremony on Friday.

In another of firsts, she was one the recipients of the London 2012 Olympic Scholarships (with Lim being the other) in October.

For Ak Hafiy Tajuddin, he will run in the men's 400m and his personal best is 49.23 seconds which he set at the 2012 Taiwan Open Athletics Championships in May.

It has been a long road for Lim after he took his talents to the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida in October for better training schedules.

He will swim in the 200m freestyle event and the current national record holder clocked a time of 2:05.19 just last month.

The Sultanate's participation at the Olympics has been made possible courtesy of universality places that the world governing bodies of athletics and swimming, IAAF and FINA respectively, have opened to countries that have no qualified athletes.
