From two to three. London Olympics here they come.

The Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) said in a Press statement yesterday that national swimmer Anderson Lim Chee Wei will be joining the duo of Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi and Maziah Mahusin at the London Olympics next month.

His inclusion is another chapter for the history books as Lim will become the first swimmer from the Sultanate to participate in Olympic Games.

It is a dream come true for the 16-year-old Bruneian as competing at the world's largest multi-sport event is always his ultimate goal.

But he is not one to stray from his target at the July 27-Aug 12 Games.

"I feel very happy to be given this opportunity to represent Brunei ... and I will also be the first swimmer from the Sultanate in the Olympics. I'm swimming the 200-metre free and my target is to break the national record again," Lim told The Brunei Times yesterday.

"I expect very good results at the Olympics since I will be shaved and tapered for it. I will still have another few weeks left of summer camp before I head to London," he added.

According to Lim, he set a new national record of 2:05.19 in the 200m freestyle in a meet last weekend breaking his previous best of 2:05.63 which he set in mid May at the GCST (Gulf Coast Swim Team) 2012 "Trials Qualifier" in Florida, United States.

Lim, who idolises American superstar Michael Phelps, who won a record eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, isn't new to competing at the big stage having represented the country at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China in July last year.

"I try not to think about the crowd too much. I know there will be lots of people watching the Games and you can't do anything about it," said Lim, who along with Maziah are recipients of the London 2012 Olympic Scholarships.

"I have already experienced similar crowds in Shanghai when there were more than 20,000 people at the stadium."

He would also like to thank the BNOC as well as the JBS (Department of Youth and Sports) for their continuous support.

Lim had moved to the United States in October last year after he was accepted by Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, in order to balance his studies and swimming.

He was training under coach Sergio Lopez who has produced numerous Olympians and gold medallists among them Trina Jackson, David Larson and Ashley Anne Whitney of the United States as well as Anthony Nesty of Suriname and Martin Zubero of Spain.

The Sultanate's participation at the Olympics has been made possible courtesy of universality places that the world governing bodies of athletics and swimming, IAAF and FINA respectively, have opened to countries that have no qualified athletes.
