Myanmar, the host for the 27th Sea Games, is planning to offer 28 sports during the biennial event next year, 12 less than the Indonesian edition last November.
Vietnam News Agency (VNA) quoted the joint general secretary of the Myanmar Olympic Committee, U Khin Maung Lwin, as saying the host had selected sports which played to their strength and in line with their culture. He said he would present a comprehensive plan to the participating countries in a meeting at the end of this month in Indonesia.
As the Games host, Myanmar has the right to propose the number of sports, including the national favourites. Gymnastics, beach volleyball and dance are among the sports that will be axed in Myanmar's Games.
The 27th Sea Games will be held in the Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay regions and Ngwe Saung Beach in Dec 11 to 22, next year.Brunei finished the last edition of the 26th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Indonesia at the bottom of the 11-nation table with four silver and seven bronze medals.
