The national swimmers may not be returning with any medals from the 10th Fina World Short Course Championships at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex in UAE but they will surely be returning with their heads held high.

Prior to their departure for the Dec 15-19 competition, the swimmers had said that their aim in Dubai was to set good benchmarks for future swimmers and improve on their personal bests and that is exactly what they did.

The 'fab four' Amanda Liew Jia Xin, Anderson Lim Chee Wei, Lim Jyh Jye and Mohd Bahrin Shah Behrom Shem had either set new and broken existing records in the events they were sent to compete in.

Anderson was the only swimmer that saw action in the pool on the last day yesterday and ended the competition on a high setting a new record in the 200m butterfly event with a time of 2:20.51 despite finishing in last out of the 40 swimmers that competed. The old time was 2:22.60.

The trip was made possible for the four swimmers as they were sponsored by the Fina (Federation Internationale de Natation) and Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA).

It was aimed to provide experience and exposure to the potential swimmers.
