So far so good in Dubai. That was exactly how the national swimmers would describe their performances so far at the 10th Fina World Short Course Championships at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex in UAE.

Prior to their departure for the Dec 15-19 competition, the swimmers had said that their aim in Dubai was to set good benchmarks for future swimmers and improve on their personal bests.

So far six new national short course records have either been set or broken and the Brunei foursome Amanda Liew Jia Xin, Anderson Lim Chee Wei, Mohd Bahrin Shah Behrom Shem and Lim Jyh Jye all have their names listed in the record books.

Anderson set two new records on Wednesday in the 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly events. He clocked 2:05.77 to better the old time of 2:08.60 in the 200m freestyle and finished with a time of 1:03.80 compared to the old mark of 1:03.17 in the 100m butterfly.

Liew broke the old national record in the 50m breaststroke with a time of 35.21 seconds, beating the old time of 36.03s which she set at the 2010 Japan Open last February.

She also set a new time for the 100m freestyle at 1:01.10 bettering the old mark of 1:03.57.

Jyh Jye managed to set the record in the 50m freestyle with a time of 25.62s compared to his old time of 26.48s.

He also beat his personal best in the 100m finishing with a time of 1:03.56 compared to his old record of 1:08.00.

Not to be left out, Md Bahrin Shah set a new record for the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:08.44 compared to his old time of 1:10.88s.

Only two national swimmers will see action tomorrow with Anderson set to swim in both the 50m butterfly and 400m freestyle events.

Liew will take to the pool to better her time in the 100m breaststroke event.
