His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, will kick start the Sultanate's campaign at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, in the men's 8-ball pool singles on Saturday.

According to an e-mail sent by the country's chef de mission Hj Muhd Zamri DP Hj Hamdani on Tuesday, His Royal Highness will also see action in the same stage of the men's 9-ball pool singles next Tuesday.

Both events will be held at the Asian Games Town Gymnasium.

Set to start tomorrow, Brunei is represented by nine athletes in five sports in the 16th edition of the Nov 12-27 Games.

Saturday will also be a busy day for wushu's Faustina Wai Sii Woo, the 18-year-old set to compete in both the one-day Southern Fist (Nanquan) and Southern Broad Sword (Nandao) events.

The country's attention in the sport shifts to teammate Lee Ying Shi next, the 16-year-old who will take part in the one-day Long Fist (Changquan) event next Tuesday.

Both events will be contested at the Nansha Gymnasium.

The experienced duo is making their debut at the Games, having already captured medals at the 4th World Traditional Wushu Championship, 3rd Indoor Asian Games and 25th Southeast Asian Games over the past year.

Fencing's Mohammad Yunos Hj Hamid takes centre stage next Friday, the 26-year-old competing in the sabre individual event at the Guangda Gymnasium.

Brunei's top athlete in the sport, Pg Mohd Nasir Pg Anak Jaafar is set to compete in the equestrian show jumping discipline on Nov 24 at the Guangzhou Equestrian Venue.

Both fencing and equestrian will be making their debut for Brunei in the Games.

The nation's largest contingent of athletes, the four in karate-do, will bring a close to the country's challenge in Guangzhou in the following two days at the Guangdong Gymnasium.

Muhammad Fida'iy Hj Sanif (men's kumite -60kg) and his older brother Mohammad Fadillah (men's kumite -67kg) will do battle on Nov 25.

Mainudin Hj Mohamad (men's kumite -75kg) and Mohammad Jamil Hj Abd Hamid (men's kumite -84kg) are the Sultanate's last competitors in the Chinese metropolis, seeing action on Nov 26.

The Sultanate's best finish was during the 12th edition of the Games in Hiroshima, Japan in 1994 where karatedo exponents Dk Marliza Pg Omar (kumite -53kg) and Megan Loo (kumite -60kg) grabbed a bronze medal each in their respective events.

The sport also won a medal of the same colour through Tong Kit Siong during the 2002 meet in Busan, South Korea, where he finished joint-third in the men's kumite -75kg.
