The Sultanate's only representative left standing at the 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, lawn bowler Ampuan Ahad Ampuan Kassim, was handed a 2-0 (10-8,7-6) defeat by Leslie Lagatule of Niue Island at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex in New Delhi yesterday.

Ampuan Ahad is still looking for his first win at the 19th Commonwealth Games, after making his debut on Saturday with consecutive defeats against Raymond Mascarenhas of Botswana (2-0 5-12, 2-13) and Rob Weales of Wales (2-0 3-16, 4-15).

With all the other Bruneian athletes already knocked out of competition in their respective events, the other lawn bowlers taking a bow off the competition on Saturday while the Sultanate's sole para-athlete at the Games Alihan Muda finished sixth in a field of nine athletes with a best throw of 8.10 metres in the F34 shot put event on Thursday, the burden for a medal rested solely on Ampuan Ahad's shoulders.

He still has a chance to make it to the next round if he can claim consecutive wins in his remaining five matches in the Group B's men's singles event.

Yet to notch a single point, Ampuan Ahad currently sits last in the nine men group.

His first hurdle in the pursuit for a medal today will be Ali Forsyth of New Zealand, before taking on England's Sam Tolchard later in the day.
