Hj Rosli Hj Ibrahim, Md Ali Bujang and Yakup Amit were the toast of the national lawn bowls team at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi yesterday, shocking hosts India 2-0 (8-5) (16-8) in the men's triples event to give the side a much needed boost.

The Sultanate's most notable result in the fourth day of the competition, the trio's win against Krishna Xalxo, Mahip Tirkey and Sunil Bahadur was only the national team's second win in seven games.

The win, however, was soon forgotten as they went on to lose against Wales 2-1 (12-7) (6-1) (2-4) in the day's last game.

The women's pairing of Esmawandy Ibrahim and Siti Ervi Fedarussanti Umar beat Guernsey 2-0 (9-5) (7-6) to rack up the other win.

The highly rated men's pairing of Hj Naim Brahim and Abd Rahman Hj Omar failed to live up to potential in both their games, falling to Northern Ireland 2-0 (11-5) (9-8) and Canada 2-0 (6-4) (8-5).

Though they didn't manage to pick up a win, the women's triples of Hjh Ajijah Muntol, Hjh Fatmah Hj Ibrahim and Hjh Lilymaryani Ampuan Salleh faired slightly better and were able to give their opponents a better run for their money. They fell to Cook Islands 2-1 (8-4) (15-1) (5-1) and Papua New Guinea 1.5-0.5 (10-10) (18-6).

The Sultanate's sole para-athlete Alihan Muda's debut in the Games in the F32/34/52 shot put event could have gone a lot better yesterday. He finished sixth in a field of nine athletes with a best throw of 8.10 metres in the second day of the track and field competition.

Canada's Kyle Pettey stole the show when he set a new world record in the event with a throw of 11.44m to win gold.
