Can national swimmer Jeremy Joint Riong make a splash in the Youth Men's 100-metre butterfly event today?

The 17-year-old Bruneian said before the start of the Youth Olympic Games that: "I feel that I've improved a lot and I'm confident that I can put up a good performance at the Games."

Joint sounded confident enough, but after witnessing compatriot Amanda Liew Jia Xin's performance in the Youth Women's 50m breaststroke yesterday, questions must be filling the youngster's head whether he could challenge other world-class athletes in Singapore.

Riong would be wise to listen to Liew: just don't think about the pressure of competing at the Youth Olympics. Instead the 17-year-old swimmer as well as Liew and 400m hurdles athlete Maziah Mahusin should embrace the opportunity to compete at the Games, not fear it.
