Brunei karateka Rodhyatul drops out of contention

Brunei Darussalam karatedo athlete Rodhyatul Adhwanna binti Bakar dropped out of medal contention in the female individual kata after posting a first-round score of 21.4 points at the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at the World Trade Center in Pasig, the Philippines.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, led the support together with the national contingent at the venue.

Indonesia’s Krisda Putri Aprilia led the field in Group 1 with a score of 24.12 points to proceed into the final round.

Home favourite Sarah Pangilinan of the Philippines responded to the cheers from the strong Filipino support with a performance that warranted her entry to the bronze medal bout after amassing 23.68 points.

The Filipino hope was joined by Thailand’s Monsicha Tararattanakul who tallied 23.08 points. Meanwhile in Group 2, Cambodia scored 21.1 points while Myanmar totalled 22.54 points.

Brunei’s interest in karatedo continues today (Dec 8) with the women’s team kata comprising Amirah Syahidah binti Abdul Rahim, Farhana Najeeha binti Abdul Rahman and Rodhyatul Adhwanna as well as the under-60kg kumite where Awangku Muhd Abdul Quddus bin Pengiran Haji Zainal will take part in the preliminary round.

Elsewhere at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium, Brunei Darussalam track athlete Mohd Firdaus Ar-Rasyid bin Haji Mohd Idris did not get pass his heats in the men’s 200m event after clocking a time of 21.84s.
