Brunei Darussalam bagged bronze in the third day of the taolu event of the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), was present at the event.
Also present was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Aliiyah Amalul Bulqiah.
Brunei wushu junior athlete Yee Sean Lim accumulated 9.28 points to win the bronze medal, and the country’s fifth medal, in the girl’s 42 forms taijiquan junior event in the morning session. Her compatriot, Ziyan Li, also competed in the event where she posted 8.72 points.
Vietnam’s Phuong Anh Do grabbed gold in the event after she registered 9.32 points while Singapore’s Jolie Goh claimed silver with 9.31 points.
Macau enjoyed a quick fire double gold in the final two matches of the afternoon session through Hou Cheong Cai and Ut Leng Cheung in the boy’s and girl’s gunshu children events respectively. Hou Cheong Cai posted 9.14 points to win gold followed by Singapore’s Caleb Ng bin Rong who snatched silver with 9.12 points and Hong Kong’s Cheuk Yin Yeung with bronze with 9.07 points.
Meanwhile in the girl’s gunshu children event, Ut Leng Cheung pipped the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Setayesh Takfallah with a score of 9.10 points with her Iranian rival settling for silver with 9.09 points. Malaysia’s Jia Ye Lee and Hong Kong shared bronze with 9.05 points.
In the afternoon session, the boy’s changquan junior event took centre stage with 20 entries battling for gold. Brunei’s Walid Lachkar managed 8.85 points in the event.
China’s Hao Zhang topped the field with 9.40 points and won gold followed by the Philippines’ silver medallist Sandrex Gainsan with 9.34 points and Malaysia’s bronze medallist Muhammad Danish Aizad bin Mohd Firdaus Chua with 9.33 points.
Brunei’s Mohammad Safiee Shayferan bin Roslan narrowly missed out on a podium finish with 9.32 points in the boy’s gunshu youth event. Hong Kong’s Kwan Ho Kwok took bronze with 9.34 points.
Korea’s young talent Jeongyeol Park emulated his exploits in the boy’s daoshu youth with another gold around his neck in the boy’s gunshu youth after his performance yielded a score of 9.55 points. Malaysia’s Khai Siang Liang scored 9.48 points to grab silver.
The focus shifted to Mohammad Safiee Shayferan’s duel event partner Majdurano Joel bin Majallah Sain in the boy’s nandao youth event, who accumulated 9.23 points.
China’s Qiquan Du dominated the event with 9.61 points while the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Ali Shokravi and Hong Kong’s Lok Man Ngan shared silver with 9.47 points.
As of yesterday afternoon, Brunei Darussalam sit in fifth place in the overall medal tally for the taolu event behind leaders China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong with three gold, one silver and one bronze.
