Wushu athletes to compete in Sarawak

Brunei’s Wushu athletes are competing in the 1st Sarawak Wuwang Cup Invitational Wushu Invitation Championship in preparation for next year’s Asian Games. – KHAIRIL HASSAN


THIRTEEN local Wushu athletes left the country on a road trip yesterday to compete in the 1st Sarawak Wuwang Cup Invitational Wushu Invitation Championship, in preparation for next year’s Asian Games and to groom local Wushu talents.

The athletes representing the country are Mohd Adi Salihin bin Roslan (Nan Quan, Nan Dao, Nan Gun), Mohd Adi Sya’rani bin Roslan (Chang Quan, Dao Shu, Gun Shu), Hosea Wong Zheng Yu (Tai Ji Quan, Tai Ji Jian), Abel Lim Wee Yuen (Chang Quan, Dao Shu), Chu Cheng Weng (Chang Quan, Dao Shu), Walid Lachkar (Chang Quan, Dao Shu), Basma Lachkar (Tai Ji Quan, Tai Ji Jian), Sherissa Lim Wan Chi (Chang Quan, Jian Shu), Lim Yee Sean (Chang Quan, Jian Shu), Ericsson Bong Cheng Loong (Dao Shu, Gun Shu), Koh Yun C (Nan Quan, Nan Dao, Nan Gun), Li Ziyan (Chang Quan, Jian Shu) and Nur Batrisyia binti Ripin (Nan Quan, Nan Dao, Nan Gun).

Accompanying the team are Manager Li Hui, Coach Zhao Chun Jie and Referee Ang lu Guan.

Manager Li said in an interview, “This is a big competition in the region where Sea Games athletes from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia are expected to compete. Top athletes from China are also expected to join.”

The competition, he said, “will be used to train our SEA Games athletes in preparation for the Asean Games next year as well as the SEA Games. The young national athletes could also make use of the opportunity to gain much needed experience and confidence”.

The competition organised by the Wushu Federation of Sarawak aims to promote international Wushu culture in exchange, enhance friendship as well as to expose wushu athletes to the international arena.
