THE Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) elected new committee members for 2017-2019 at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 21.

The new executive committee members are: Aziz Latip as President; Ahmad Isa as Vice President; Ang Beng Siong as Honorary Secretary; and Wee Wan Chin as Honorary Treasurer. The election also included the appointment of new members – Harjimmey Zainal, Awangku Farid Idrus, Josephine Bautista Nikles, Normah Haji Nadi and Zeti Reza Amin.

Meanwhile, two of Brunei elite senior swimmers, Christian Nikles and Muhammad Isa Ahmad will compete in the FINA World Swimming Championships in Budapest in July.

“We are honoured to have FINA appointing Harjimmey Zainal as one of its International Technical Official’s for this high profile championship,” said Ang Beng Siong, BASA Honorary Secretary. Brunei will also field Brunei’s national synchronised swim team at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur in August.

Brunei’s swimming calendar will end on a high note at the end of the year with the hosting of Southeast Asia Age Group Swimming Championships from November 10–12. Elite swimmers from Southeast Asian countries will participate in this annual championship.

FINA has also indicated that this championship will be one of the qualifying meets for the Youth Olympic Games 2018.

“We expect high level competition from the region as each country will send their best swimmers to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games next year,” said Ang.
