HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman yesterday attended the final day of the 5th Brunei Open & Masters Swimming Championship at the Aquatics Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah completed the final day of the championship with two more personal bests in the men’s 100m freestyle and men’s 50m backstroke events.

Also present were Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda Muhammad Aiman ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim eclipsed his old mark of 1:35.89 with a new time of 1:33.05 in the 100m freestyle and shattered his old time of 56.00s with a revised time of 51.12s in the 50m backstroke events.

National swimmers Nur Haziq Samil and Ashley Chai both dominated the men’s and women’s categories respectively though the former was sensationally knocked off top spot by Toby Harris in the 50m backstroke.

Nur Haziq Samil accomplished top spot in the 200m IM and 100m freestyle while Ashley Chai romped to the 200m IM and 100m freestyle titles.

The Brunei Speed Swimming Club swimmer was the only participant to record a time under a minute with a time of 57.80s in the 100m freestyle and setting a new personal best in the process trimming his old mark of 58.08s.

The swimming meet had attracted more than 150 swimmers and several teams including International School Brunei (ISB), Dolphin Swimming Club, Royal Brunei Recreation Club, Jerudong Swimming Club, Miri Amateur Swimming Association, Panaga Stingrays and Petroleum Recreational Club.
