The Tigers were crowned champions of the inaugural Brunei National Lawn Bowls Premier League 2014 last night.

The Tigers defeated the Lions 2-0 after winning both singles and triple events at the Lawn Bowls Arena of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. The Tigers outplayed the Lions 23-15 in the triples event earlier in the day and they were also victorious in the singles, winning the tie 25-19 in the evening.

"The triple event was a brilliant game... the Tigers coming from 8-2 down to win the tie," said national coach Tony Scott who is also on the organising committee of the tournament. Organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Lawn Bowls Association, with the cooperation of the Department of Youth and Sports, the Brunei National Lawn Bowls Premier League 2014 kicked off on May 6.

Thirty lawn bowlers separated into 10 teams competed in all the three events. The ten teams are the Jets, the Sabres, the Thunder, the Eagles, the Stingrays, the Lions, the Tigers, the Warriors, the Scorpions and the Panthers. "It was a great tournament but this is not the end. We will be having a very busy month ahead as we are planning to compete in a number of tournaments," said Scott.

"Our players will be competing at the Masuri Cup and the World bowls Merdeka indoor in Malaysia in September. "They will also be going to compete in the 20th Asia bowls in China during December and I hope to name the players this week for the tournaments," said Scott. "Two of our players will also be heading to Australia in November to contest the world junior championships," he added.-AK Fauzi Pg Salleh
