Sunday, July 27, 2014

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday confirmed that national goalkeeper Muhammad Fakhrul Zulhazmi Yussof has been dropped from the country's Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT) team after he pleaded guilty to stealing gas cylinders.

A press release issued by the ministry yesterday stated that the decision to drop Fakhrul for the HBT, the August 8-23 biennial event for Under-21 regional national teams which Brunei will host, has been made pending confirmation from the ministry's disciplinary committee - which is scheduled to meet in a few days time.

Md Fakhrul, the team's first choice goalkeeper and the man in between the sticks when Brunei won the last HBT in 2012, was imposed a $1,500 fine on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to stealing gas cylinders.

A previous report in The Brunei Times stated that the 23-year-old stole three gas cylinders from two houses on July 20 according to the court document submitted by prosecuting officer Emily Goh.
