The national petanque team returned from pre-SEA (Southeast Asian) Games petanque competition Napyidaw, Myanmar with good results yesterday.

Captain Mazlan Hj Yahya sealed a silver medal in the men's single after being defeated by Myanmar.

Wedy Nurol Suzana Luon managed to pick up a bronze medal in the women's single after losing to Thailand in the semi-finals.

Unfortunately Wirna Hj Mohd Yassin and Pg Hj Asmalina Pg Hj Jaya didn't manage to advance past the first round after a tight game against Myanmar falling by only one point.

Mazlan told The Brunei Times, "The tournament was very tough because all the competitors were strong, especially Thailand and Cambodia."

The petanque team was recently confirmed with their ticket to take part in the SEA Games in Myanmar this December.

As it stands the team have had a good run of form over the last two years, and are potential medal winners for the Sultanate.

A few of their successes would be claiming the win in the Borneo Cup Petanque Championships and the Borneo Inter-Club Petanque Championship last year.

Mazlan also managed to score a title hat-trick this year by winning the Bintulu Open Petanque Championships in Sarawak after taking the previous two.

"InsyaAllah I will do my best to try and gain a medal during the SEA Games," he said.

"Leading up to the games we will keep up with our training routine. Training for us is from Monday to Saturday at 8am-11.30am, 2.30pm-5.30pm and 7pm-9.30pm."
