Brunei celebrated the 2012 Olympic Day at the Tutong Sports Complex in Tutong yesterday.

His Royal Highness Prince Hj Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC), attended the event. The Prince was accompanied by his son YAM Pg Muda 'Abdul 'Aleem. The event began with an aerobics session which HRH participated in.

The highlight of this year's Olympic Day was the futsal event which attracted six teams. The Prince laced up for one of the sides, the Olympic Junior Team.

But it was the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) that won the competition after defeating White Lions 1-0 in the final.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah, skippered the MCYS team while YAM Pg Muda 'Abdul 'Aleem led the White Lions.

The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) team won the bronze after defeating Diplomatic 3-0 in the third-place playoff.

The other outdoor activities included athletics, netball, handball and para sports while karatedo, taekwando, wushu and table tennis were held indoors.

Other activities held were aquatic sports, exhibition and colouring contest.

HRH also presented all the prizes to the winners.

This year's Olympic Day focused more on family sports and gatherings. It aimed to strengthen family values through sports.

The event was organised by the BNOC in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports.

Olympic Day is celebrated to mark the revival of modern Olympics which took place on June 23, 1894, in Paris.
